The originalBlack Christmaswas manoeuver by Bob Clark , who , funnily enough , would later go on to guide a far more wholesome festal cinema in the shape of 1983’sA Christmas Story . put on a college campus just before Christmas break , Black Christmasfocuses on a chemical group of college girls - admit Olivia Hussey and Margot Kidder - stalk by a crazed killer who taunts them with ominous phone calls .
As one of the earliest slashers and one of the earliest motion picture to featurethe ‘ final lady friend ’ trope , Black Christmasinfluenced many later slasher horror - most notablyJohn Carpenter ’s germinal 1978 slasherHalloween . It was antecedently remake in 2006 with a film engineer by Glen Morgan ( Willard , Final Destination 3 ) and star Mary Elizabeth Winstead ( 10 Cloverfield Lane , Fargo ) . The 2006 remake was not very well received , however , in part because it pass the flick ’s killer motivation and a backstory , which the originalBlack Christmascleverly stayed away from .

Given Blumhouse ’s horror credentials , Black Christmasfans are promising this remake will fare better than the 2006 remaking . Now thatDeadlinehas reported the gifted Cary Elwes has connect the cast in an as yet unknown role , a quality remaking looks even more likely . Although he ’s plausibly best know for his role as Westley in another fad classic , The Princess Bride , Elwes is a seasoned horror player too .
