On one hand , it ’s a brisk change of rate to see Bruce Wayne ’s mother become such a central shape to his adult life history . Something he shares with Superman inBvS , but in comedian , it ’s been Thomas Wayne who casts the largest shadow in late plot line . Nowhere is that truer than in DC’sFlashpointtimeline , where it wasBruceshot to destruction , transform his father into Batman . But now that Thomas has jumped from his substitute reality into DC ’s universe , he ’s bring a jaw - dropping"Martha"twist along with him .
In case rooter have lack a chapter or two of Thomas Wayne ’s account , it was lately revealed that theFlashpointtimeline never break off existing . That permit The Flash togive Bruce and Thomas a father - Logos reunion , but they parted with Thomas tell his boy to give up the cape and cowl . Bruce elected not to , and … things have gone downhill since . His wedding to Catwoman was ruined . He lost Gotham to Bane . Since Thomas seemed to be loyal to Bane , the first hint is the most dire for Bruce : that his Father-God has brought him out into the sands to finish the business . Either that , or dig a grave for himself . But from his first board , Thomas Wayne , the Flashpoint Batman seems more determined than ever . Yet as Bruce excite , Thomas does n’t seem do-or-die , just … message .
As Thomas push off one group of assassin after another – all sent by Ra ’s al Ghul – while Bruce sleeps , he assures his son that he ’ll sleep together where they ’re hold up , and why , soon enough . The coffin they ’re dragging behind them as they go ? Well , he ’ll understand that , too . All things considered , and intended as a compliment , this brusque vignette from Tom King , Mikel Janin , and Jordie Bellaire is well-fixed to image within the fiction of Zack Snyder’sBatman v Superman . Bruce having lose all bearings , relying only on the dreamlike figure of his father to guide him , grinning as if the Wayne family is marching towards its last salvation .
As Thomas promised , Bruce soon realizes why the path Thomas is walking seems like portion . Why watch the death of his Logos , suffer his married woman soon after , and condemn his life to darkness seems to have lead him to this demise marching ( look up to as " a dream " ) . Bruce realizes that the coffin does n’t hold his fate , or even Thomas ’s … it holdsMartha .
That ’s correct , it is n’t the death of Martha Wayne that delivers the lurid conclusion toBatman # 73 ’s final pages , but herresurrection . Thomas Wayne seeks The Nain Pit , obviously able to do the one thing that even the resurrecting powers of Ra ’s al Ghul ’s celebrated Lazarus Pit can not . It can bushel not only the body of Martha , but her soul , intact , and un - corrupted . That may be a requirement , since the originalFlashpointversion of Martha did n’t just die alongside Bruce , but was driven to becoming that reality ’s version of the Joker . It remains to be insure if that fate is being considered canon for this Thomas ( the cover of previous issues depicted Bruce and Martha dead in Crime Alley ) .
But regardless of what fate she ultimately met , Martha Wayne has once again become the surprisal gene in the salvation of Bruce Wayne . In King’sBatmanrun , Martha once agains enter the story just as Bruce has been vote down in mind , consistence , person , heart , you name it . On film , Bruce and Batman ’s redemption came when he was remind of the substance of his female parent ’s end , and a choice to honor it ( along with the very reason he chose his mission to begin with ) . In the comedian , will Bruce witnessing his father ’s attempts to deny , reverse , and possiblydishonorMartha ’s memory be what begins his own hike and come back ?
The twist is secure to essay controversial … as just about every story shell during King ’s run has before it . But with Bruce set up to bring back home for " City of Bane , " the final run of King’sBatman , expect him to rebound just as cursorily and completely as his cinematic opposite number .
