spook Recon Breakpointcomes from Ubisoft Paris , and it aims to expand on what the squad did withGhost Recon Wildlandswhile also revolutionizing the tactical shooter musical genre on a micro scale . Of course , it ’s not only about the gameplay , asGhost Recon Breakpointis introducing arguably the toughest villain into the franchise with Cole D. Walker , who first appeared in a mission inGhost Recon Wildlandsand is being portrayed by worker Jon Bernthal .

Cole D. Walker is a former member of the Ghost team , and since he did n’t agree with how the government ’s particular military unit was treat thing , he determine to take matters into his own custody . And so , Walker shape a group called the Wolves ( think : the Syndicate from theMission : Impossibleseries ) . They ’ve take over the island of Aurora inGhost Recon Breakpoint , along with the extremely - in advance drones from Skell Technology , a corporate giant that occupies the island .

Bernthal showed up during Ubisoft ’s pre - E3 insistence conference earlier this month to promoteGhost Recon Breakpointand in brief explain the role of his persona , Col . Cole D. Walker . This Modern write up from Ubisoft Paris has been   penned with the help of   Emil Daubon , who also process as the military technology advisor , meaning Walker is a case written designedly and realistically . But before   Bernthal went on stage , Screen Rant had the opportunity to interview   him about hisGhost Reconcharacter to take more about what that could mean .

We know about your character - his ecumenical description , the Wolves , and everything - but how do you see him ? What are your thoughts ?

He was a ghostwriter , so he has the same training , the same capability as all the Ghosts . But I think he ’s going to rid the island of Aurora of Ghosts . He ’s very different , as far as his mission , as far as his mindset . He ’ll go to any length to dispatch his task . He does n’t believe in the moral code that ’s shared through the Ghosts community . But , look , I was really thankful and well-chosen with the fact that the folks that make this game care equally as far as the gameplay and the sort of point of nuance of the fib . They really want these persona to be layered in nuance , and I was thankful for that and sort of blown away with the point of writing and the level of direction . There ’s a lot of heat as far as the hoi polloi that make this plot , and I get laid being a part of projection where masses are passionate .

Do you see him as a baddie then ? Or does he see himself as a baddie ?

I do n’t think anybody come across themselves as a villain . I think that ’s where all the great antagonist , anti - sub , and villains have that in common . They have something that they really consider in , they fight for it with everything they have . But they do n’t wake up in the morning and say " I ’m go to be a villain today . " I recollect that he believe he ’s absolutely doing the right thing . His means and his shipway of going about what he wants just might not be acceptable or tribe might not be able to stand it .

You ’ve done quite a few military - case undertaking , so do you see this as a natural protraction of that ?

Enzo still

I think any time - as an actor , author , anything - any time you make anything that ’s about the military , it ’s a huge accolade . It ’s a huge responsibility . I was enormously grateful to the people at Ubisoft . At all times , they had limited forces soldiers on set ; they had complete detached sovereignty to stop at what ’s going on , if something did n’t seem real or unquestionable . We get to train with them - and that was as far as the weapons , the way you transmit yourself , the way you talk to people . I think that ’s fundamental , and I arrest to make some great friends because of that . And I thought that it was the reverential , right thing to do , and I was really thankful for it .

You mentioned preparation . What sort of breeding did you have to do on this that you have n’t done on your other projection ?

[ author and military technical consultant ] Emil Daubon - he ’s Green Beret - and I ’ve never trained with the Green Beret before , and it comes with its own thing . It ’s different than any of the training that I ’ve done . I call back what ’s expectant about acting , what ’s neat about any sort of theatre that you could train in , is that you could never do too much of it . you may never learn enough , there ’s always more . So any opportunity that I get to work with any of those guys is big .

Jon Bernthal in Ghost Recon Breakpoint

So what ’s the aspect of the eccentric that imply the most to you ?

I would say that , I would say the fact that he ’s a special force soldier . I would say the fact that he ’s a loss leader and he call for that staggeringly seriously , I would say that the fact that , again , he ’s a scoundrel but he absolutely believes in what he ’s doing and he ’s not some sort moustache - twirling , spoonful - fed kind of archetype , you recognize , I recall that did that the filmmakers and the guy wire that make the game cared enough . And it was deeply significant to them to check that that the story was nuanced and that it was n’t just one Federal Reserve note . And I cogitate when you see the game , the level of sophistication the engineers can make , you may see that in the gameplay ; you may see how much they becharm . It was n’t just a bunch of empty public lecture that they made on the twenty-four hour period . I reckon they followed through , and I ’m staggered by the hoi polloi that make these game .

Did you do motion - capture for this ?

Jon Bernthal as Cole D Walker in Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Yes we did .

How was that ?

I bonk it . Look , you got to get over the fact that everybody ’s in a funny suit and has dots all over their face . You get over that pretty fast . But the way that these thing make for , there ’s one C of cameras in the room . So they ’re cover all angle at once , so you have one take to make everything perfect . So , you have a go at it , sometimes these are 10 , 11 , 12 - second takes , and if there ’s one misunderstanding you got to pop over . There ’s an tremendous amount of pressure on each take , so it ’s very rehearsal - establish . You spend a lot of time getting it perfect , set out all the stage dancing perfect , all the dialogue sodding , all the action perfect . But then again , if there ’s a fault you get to part over . So there ’s pressure . It ’s a real challenge , and it ’s hard - anything expert has to be heavy . And to be honorable with you , I really wish well more films and television [ show ] were shot that way . I call up it pose a degree of pressure level , and sort of level of stakes , on each time you do a take that exact the best out of everybody , and I think that ’s something …

Comparing mo - crownwork to live - action , right ?

dead . I think it ’s a really , really coolheaded way to just … you get one take to do it . And when you conceive about it in the history of film , some of the most iconic scenes , most iconic consequence in film , are one - take shots . you could see why [ what ] I was just cite was in Goodfellas . When he parks and takes him all the way through the Copa into the bowel of the kitchen , then out into the stagecoach . When you retrieve about the layer of commitment , and the level rehearsal , and the tier of particular , and the level of work that goes into that , it ’s amazing . And then that ’s how every one of these scenes is shot ; everything ’s got to be perfect . I think that ’s really nerveless .

Was mo - cap the extent of your involvement in this game , or did you provide any influence into the story as well ? Like did you give them tip on what Walker would do in a special berth ?

Ghost Recon

[ Laughs ] I work for them , man . No , they knew what they were doing , and it was a great group of artist to work with . I check a lot there .

So would you do more video game after this ?

I would , yeah .

Ghost Recon Breakpoint

Got anything in mind ? Or would you require to continue with a Ghost Recon - case ?

You know that … we ’ll see . We ’ll see what come down . I just enjoyed the process , and I think in the masses that made the game . I believe in the group of people I worked with , and I know how much they care about the people that work the game . So I really desire dig it . We ’ll let them resolve .
