The world ofHarry Potterhosts dozens upon dozens of amazing and fantastical creature . The newest movie franchise , Fantastic Beasts , has given these creatures more of a chance to come into focus . However , in some case , they ’re not as heavy as one might expect . Many of the wight include withinHarry Potterlore are actually based on real traditional knowledge throughout the world . And , more often than not , these creature have been tamed somewhat . This was probably done to make them more child - well-disposed .

Kelpie

Newt is shown tending to a Kelpie inFantastic wildcat : The Crimes of Grindelwald . However , had this Kelpie been more similar to the ones in traditional knowledge , his help would be having big problems than an injured deal .

Kelpies are shapeshifting water John Barleycorn , and they are well known for offering ride to unknowing strangers , only to drown them and , presumably , wipe out them . They are not friendly creature and are also associated with human sacrifice . now , their tales are usually told to keep children from wandering too close to the pee , especially when unsupervised .

Grindylow

The Grindylow are a nuisance inHarry Potter , but only if you ’re diving deep into a lake . Otherwise , they seem pretty harmless . Well , except for their numbers , perhaps . Grindylow are an English behemoth , and , like the Kelpie , are associate with dragging people into the deeps . Though they prefer children in this instance . They also tend to mill about around bogs as well as lake . Clearly , they ’re not picky , which just means you have to be measured around any and all pee .

Giant

Giants are terrific and unnerving , and , confessedly , the novel do a slenderly better job of portraying their danger . Not only did they tell us more of Hagrid ’s tale go up against these brutes , but they showed them fighting during the Battle of Hogwarts .

We probably do n’t postulate to explain why giants would be so dangerous . Their size and hunger alone are reasons enough to avoid them . We should also probably just be thankful that they were n’t more graphically portrayed in the movies .

Kappa

Kappas are yet another urine - based animate being you ’d rather not come across , give the prospect . We ’ve only see a Kappa in communicate duringThe Crimes of Grindelwald , but they seemed relatively unagitated , all things considered . Perhaps that ’s because they were clearly caged at the fourth dimension . Kappas are Nipponese water purport and are ill-famed for assaulting people in the waters . It ’s believe that they would happily remove a specific electric organ from their human targets . However , they can also be appeased with cucumbers , so that ’s something , at least .

Oni

Oni are another creature from Nipponese lore . They fall into similar category as demons and the like . They ’re large and intimidating , and they really are not the variety of creature you ’d like to falter across . Not even Newt would have enjoyed meeting one of these guys .

Since the Oni have only made their show in poster form so far , we do n’t in reality cognise how they would behave . Still , it seems high-risk to be hauling one around as a simple attraction , do n’t you think ?

Zouwu

recall that lovely and oversized cat - like creature that Newt tamed with the bell toy ? That ’s a Zouwu . And actually , they did a pretty decent business with the way they ’re portray . Really , the only thing that could be consider off about them is the mode hoi polloi reacted to them , because these beautiful creatures are kind of a big hand .

Redcap

Professor Lupin had the bookman face off against Redcaps as part of their final exam for the year . Had these been the Redcaps of lore , a caboodle of scholarly person would have die , and Lupin would have been out of his job a lot faster . redcap fall into the fae category , and not the pretty faery eccentric either . They ’re brutish , and get their names for their blood - soak caps . They ’re a contour of goblin , which in all probability says enough right there — at least where the lore is involve .

Centaur

When it come to lore , Centaur do n’t exactly have the upright reputation . Sure , Harry Pottergot their flavour correct — though it is a turn hard to mess that up — but they did n’t show all the brutality that they ’re capable of . You see , Centaurs are just as varied as humans are . Meaning that some of them are kind , while some of them are really vile monsters . We got a morsel of an idea in that in the books , but the movies cut back on a lot of that .

Sphinx

The Sphinx is one of those magic creatures that did n’t even make it into theHarry Pottermovies despite its appearance inHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . We ’re going to have to simply mouth about the Scripture version in this instance , for deficiency of a good option .

In the book , Harry had to answer a conundrum so as to go on on with the last challenge of the Triwizard Tournament . We were give way the stamp that Harry would have lost the chance to get the cup had he suffice wrong . Meanwhile , had this been a classic mythological tale , the Sphinx would have happily devoured Harry for answering wrongly .

Boggarts

Boggarts almost seem like the jocularity of the serial publication . In the movie , they ’re a nuisance , but not really a life-threatening one . And , while a darker scene was included in the books — the one where Molly kept discover her family idle — that ’s really not the same kind of menace we ’re talking about here .

Boggarts are malicious minuscule monsters , and they ’re not confined to cupboard or closets either . Hiding under a bed would suit them just fine . In fact , that would give them more room to mess with masses , so it ’s even good for them .
