Carl does really break down during the journey , confess toMichonnethat he ca n’t go on without his father . But this could n’t be further from the actual trueness . Rick has more than prepared his son for a life without him , as evidenced by just how well Carl is apprehend in the backwash of his father ’s death . That does n’t make Rick ’s destruction any less sad or Carl ’s grief any less painful , but it does think of there ’s hope for the future ofThe Walking Dead . A futurity that only exists thanks to Rick Grimes .
