TheLord of the Ringsmovies were a huge winner and reignite fervor for the world of Middle - Earth . While overall fan enjoy the film , the movie did leave out many scenes that were include in the books . As with any movie rendition of a film , it ’s impossible to include everything , as they are two unlike mediums .
Also , which scenes are include and which are not is somewhat subjective and give up to the creators . WhileLord of the Ringsfans still make love the movies , there are some scenes many people can agree should have been incorporate . Here are 10 scenes from the books we wish the movies had include .
OLD MAN WILLOW
This is a Hellenic scene that Quran devotee will call up . Asthe four Hobbitsare leave the shire horse and head toward Bree , they encounter Old Man Willow as an other index of the tycoon of Sauron . Old Man Willow is a sentient tree with malign intentions and king . He essay to trap the Hobbits and hypnotizes them .
This whole successiveness was cut from the moving-picture show , which make sense give clip , but it would have been great to see this iconic moment . Luckily , there was a nod to this scenery in the extended edition ofLord of the Rings : The Two Towers .
WORMTONGUE DOESN’T KILL SARUMAN
This is another view that did get included in the movies but only in the extended version . Also , how everything went down was quite different . InReturn of the King , Wormtongue stab Saruman in an surplus scene that was n’t in the theatrical version .
However , in the books , this happened at the end of the entire narrative in the Shire . In fact , Wormtongue really cut Saruman ’s pharynx powerful on Frodo ’s doorstep . Wormtongue was then stamp out by being shot with arrows .
NO ELLADAN OR ELROHIR
While Arwen is given a self-aggrandizing role in the movies , not all of her family made it to the big screen . It ’s a little - known fact to picture fans thatElrond had two sons as well . They are twins named Elrohir and Elladan .
In the books , they sleep together and work with the Rangers of the North , including Aragorn . They are also the ones who meet Aragorn inReturn of the King , not Elrond , and they drop much of that book fighting by his side .
GOLLUM ISN’T SHOWN IN MIRKWOOD
In the Bible edition ofThe Fellowship of the Ring , there is a long chronological succession of the Council of Elrond that includes many flashback . They show some of this in the picture show , such as the flashback where we see how Gandalf become jug by Saruman .
However , one flashback sequence was left out . Legolas actually fare to the council to secern Elrond thatGollum had escaped from the vigil of the extremely low frequency of Mirkwood , but we do n’t get any of this selective information in the moving picture .
THE BARROW-DOWNS
A circumstances of cut scene that fans missed have to do with Frodo , Sam , Merry , and Pippin ’s journeying from the Shire towards Rivendell . It does make sense that many of these scenes were cut , considering that some of them do n’t add a lot to the overall plot of the story .
However , these moments had a lot of worldbuilding that fan missed . After give Tom Bombadil ’s , the Hobbits run into even more trouble at the Barrow - downs . Frodo is pulled into a tomb by one of the hard liquor cursed by the Witch - king of Angmar .
THE OTHER DÚNEDAIN ARE NOT SHOWN
In the moving picture , Aragorn being a ranger is mentioned , but the significance of that is not explore like it is in the books . Aragorn is a Ranger of the North and one of the Dúnedain . This means he belong to an ancient race of Men who were committed to destroying evilness .
They can last three times long than most humans and are excellent warrior . In the books , he is their drawing card . In the movies , this is not explored and we do n’t see any of the other Rangers .
THE SCOURING OF THE SHIRE
In the movies , the doughnut is put down and then the Hobbits mostly get to go back to the shire horse and populate their lives , even if they are apparently impacted by the events . The book takes a different approach path .
When the Hobbits getting even , they find Saruman has taken over the shire . There is a battle called the Battle of Bywater that they conduce in ordering to remove Saruman from the Shire . This is a fascinating series of result , but it would have been too difficult and anticlimactical to include in the movie .
NO GLORFINDEL
Many character that were included in the books were not included in the films . These side persona added a lot of the universe of Middle - Earth but did n’t necessarily take to be included .
Glorfindel was a Firstborn elf who almost joined the Fellowship . He is also the mortal who rescues Frodo after he is stabbed by the Nazgûl . In the movies , Arwen take this role rather .
NO GILDOR, EITHER
Gildor is another gremlin who was in the books who is not include in the movies . It ’s a shame if you ’re a fan of Tolkien ’s elves because some of thesecharacters have fascinating backstories .
Gildor is an Elf Lord who actually rescues the Hobbits from a Ringwraith . Another fun fact is that he ’s the fibre that says , “ Do n’t you leave alone him , Samwise Gamgee , ” in the books instead of Gandalf .
TOM BOMBADIL
Tom Bombadil is often the most cited fictional character and scene from theLord of the Ringsbooks that lover like had been include . In the books , after rescuing the Hobbits from Old Man Willow , Bombadil gave them a place to rest at his home .
He also then rescues them from the Barrow - down . His wife , Goldberry , is also absent from the celluloid . buff still wish well the case could have been let in even if he was n’t necessary to the plot .
