Played by Andrew Hubatsek in Mary Lambert ’s 1989 adaptation andAlyssa Levine in the late 2019 interlingual rendition , Zelda is one of the more distressful constituent inPet Sematary- even in a story where the plot pivots around a zombie toddler on a pour down spree ( among other things ) . When female parent Rachel was a child , her sister was bedridden on account of spinal meningitis ; an infection that make severe disfigurement . However , instead of feeling dingy for her babe , Rachel was afraid . Even more , she was hackneyed of helping take care of her . To Rachel , Zelda was their family ’s goliath in the bell tower . And , when repugnance films are too often criticized for relying so intemperately on electric shock value over subtlety -includingPet Sematary2019 itself- this is admirable . Still , the admittedly immanent reply to both characters is advantageously served by the originalPet Sematary’smore removed - from - reality tone . Zelda is n’t Rachel ’s sister any longer , she ’s a colossus in her head ; so , interpreting her as such conveys just what variety of repugnance Rachel is feel .
