In the film21 Bridges , Taylor Kitsch and Stephan James portray Ray and Michael . They ’re close booster and diminished - meter thieves whose latest heist triggers a monumental manhunt after they trip upon an tremendous cache of cocaine - and then defeat several fuzz during their relief valve .
Screen Rant perplex to speak with them about how they approached their relationship in the film and their experience with the military grooming they did in formulation for their role .
Screen claptrap : Guys , I really dug the motion-picture show , and one of the best matter about it is that your character family relationship . Can you both discuss a bit about the bond your persona partake in ?
Taylor Kitsch : It ’s everything , otherwise it ’s gon na go down to being a commonplace action film if you do n’t have that heartbeat underneath it . That ’s the one thing we focus on from twenty-four hours one , and that ’s what ’s gon na keep that a float and keep you engage . That was it .
Screen Rant : Taylor you ’ve said you loved play Ray …
Taylor Kitsch : I do .
Screen Rant : What was it about Ray that you loved so much ?
Taylor Kitsch : There ’s just an undeniable … he just … honor that relationship … to the point he would give his own liveliness for . I imagine there ’s just something beautifully tragical behind that . And I make love kind of explore that . One , you may reason Ray to do anything . Because of that . So I can go any which way on any give take , which I lie with . And as remorseless as he can be , there ’s always a logical thinking behind it .
Screen Rant : Stephan , I saw this consultation you did for theHollywood Reporterand you talked about the use that African American actors are offered can be a piece one dimensional , specially in crime action literary genre like this film . So what was your response when you read this script and you saw the character that Michael ended up being ?
Stephan James : I enjoy it . I loved Michael . I thought he was extremely superimposed . The moving-picture show remind me of so many films that I ’ve been so excited about grow up . But the truth is Michael could have been anybody . He did n’t have to be an African - American character , and I conceive that ’s what made the narration particularly special to me . Just step into this role that could theoretically be any type of person but it just happen to be Michael . Dealing with that conflict , especially since you see the destruction of the celluloid and that confront off between Chadwick ’s character and my character and really just understand that active is so that ’s emphatically something that aided in my interest in the pic .
Screen Rant : Taylor this was not the first clock time you trained as a military character , but Stephan , I recall this is yours ?
Stephan James : Yeah , definitely my first time doing major gun training , and yeah , I just had a blast humanity . We got to flow out with really cool SWAT bozo who was showing us the whole gambit and play with all the fun toys … so it was nerveless .
Screen Rant : Taylor , since this is n’t your first metre , do you see anything new every prison term you go into this training ?
Taylor Kitsch : Yeah , you obtain ta at least press the refresh clit , because I do n’t shoot much when I ’m not playing a guy wire that ’s doing it . I do bed it . I eff the unconscious process of it and working with these Guy in armour … scream out to Vinny ( Vinny Mazzarella , the plastic film ’s Property Master) … he was awesome . I think it served a big intent and I ’m lucky to be train by the best as well .
