Captain America goes back in prison term at the end ofAvengers : Endgameand takes Mjolnir with him , but what does he do with Thor ’s magic hammering ? The cherished artillery from Nidavellir that Thor held for years was destroyed inThor : Ragnarokby Hela , but it do a return inAvengers : Endgamethanks to the time travel plot .
It is originally Thor who summons Mjolnir when he and Rocket go back to Asgard in the yr 2013 , during the events ofThor : The Dark World . Their foreign mission was just to obtain the Reality Stone , but Thor could n’t stand firm getting his trustworthy malleus back too . He use both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker during the final struggle , but he is n’t the only one . pay off a tease fromAvengers : Age of Ultron , Captain America plunk up and apply Mjolnir(proving he is suitable ) during their fight against Thanos . Cap immediately takes a liking to the pound , and when he is transmit on a mission to put the Infinity Stones back in their right places in the timeline , he takes Mjolnir with him .

The import feels rude after how much Captain America has used the hammer already , and since he is about to travel through time all by himself - where he ’ll possiblymeet Red Skulland other threat again - Mjolnir could prove to be utile . But that is n’t why Cap takes the weapon with him : it is n’t explicitly state in the picture , but based onAvengers : Endgame ’s explanation of time traveland fork-like realities , the most likely reason is that he is also returning Mjolnir to 2013 .
Since Thor took the power hammer during his trip , this timeline would otherwise be without Mjolnir from 2013 onwards . This would intend he would n’t be able-bodied to intercept Malekith inThor : The Dark World , nor Ultron inAvengers : Age of Ultron . This future ( likely ) does not require him to suit up and struggle anymore , so he would have no use for Mjolnir either . just put , it would n’t make common sense for him to flow on to the hammer if he knew he was n’t going to demand it ever again .
